[closed] incline percentages

Hi,

Are the incline percentages on the stats page the same as what is used on roads? (I.e. a percentage of 45 degrees) .

Also, it would be useful if an additional set of percentages could be added for the steepest inclinr and decline on the route. To filter outgps spikes etc, perhaps over a space of 30 seconds or 1 minute?

Just think it would be nice to know what gradient that particularily nasty bit on your hike was.

Yes inclines are given as the ones for roads (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grade_%28slope%29).
An incline of 100% corresponds to an angle of 45°.
However, the mean incline values given on the statistics page exclude flat parts from the computation. It's actually the mean values when the track is not flat.

To have an idea of the incline at a particular moment, you can use the 'Dynamic profile' feature: from the map, select a track and choose 'Dynamic profile'. In the displayed profile, click on one Y axis and select 'Incline'. You can then move the map (or or click on the profile) to match any part of the track and the graph will give you the incline value at this particular moment.

I havent really had a play around with the dynamic profile - its actually really useful.

The only problem I have with this is that is extremely spikey. Origonally I had this as part of my usual graph, which I ended up replacing with 'time', because the spikeyness inhibited its usefulness. Not sure if there would be any way of smoothign this data down without compromising its accuracy?

The Dynamic Profile still extremely useful and something I will definately be using more of!
