Resolution computation failed error

Post by skyerib » Wed Jul 06, 2022 8:53 pm

I have been using Alpine quest (android) with Memory map qct files for a number on years without any problems but since the latest update to version 2.3.2 I get a "resolution computation failed" error at the bottom of the screen; see screenshot. The map files referred to in the error aren't the active map but others on the device and the error refers to a number of files sequentially.

Is this a known error or is due to the qct files becoming corrupted?

Hi,
Using version 2.3.2. On Tuesday I had no issues with an Explorer qct file in displayed maps, in fact I was demoing opacity and impressing my apple phone owning mate. Today right now that sheet was not current and I called up current sheet from Imported Maps>IN-BOUNDS MAPS with no issues. Just loaded an OUT-OF-BOUNDS map (118) with no issues.

This might help. Let me know if you want me to try anything else.
Regards
David

Thanks for your reply David. I have been looking into the issue a little more and I think, given that it is always the same subset of files that give the error, they are likely to have become corrupted. I'm away at the moment but when I get home, I will delete the files and reload them from my PC; hopefully that will cure the problem. I'll report back when done.

Mike

Hi and sorry for the delay,

Your files are not corrupted, it seems an issue with the latest version of the app and some particular QCT maps.
The problem should only occurs on particular maps like legends maps or region indexes maps, all other maps should load and display fine.

I'll make sure this is fixed in the next update.

I've just published a new beta version called "2.3.2b".
This version better handles corrupted QCT files, and this particular error message shouldn't be displayed anymore.
If you still get warning messages when listing your QCT maps, it means that some of them are corrupted (improperly or incompletely copied on your device). The application does give the name of the maps in questions.
Try to copy them again, or move them in a sub-folder (or delete them) to now have any warning messages.

I have this problem every time I open Alpinequest, despite using 2.3.2c.
The message comes up for 9 different .qct files.
Possibly these may be corrupted, but I never used to get this message with previous versions and I really don't want to see it ever time.
Is there any way to turn it off?
Thank you

Hi albacore,
If you still see this for some maps, then it means they are completely unusable.
If you can't re-download a proper copy on your device, I'd suggest you to create a sub-folder and move the corrupted files in it so the app won't report them.

The update seems to have fixed this issue for me but has replaced it with a different error message "invalid qct pixel size: 0x0"

Hi,
I'll suggest the same action as previously:
If you still see this for some maps, then it means they are completely unusable.
If you can't re-download a proper copy on your device, I'd suggest you to create a sub-folder and move the corrupted files in it so the app won't report them.

I'm not sure from your response whether this is the same error and you have changed the message or whether it is something else?

I've just selected randomly one of the map files that gives the error and scrolled around at different zoom levels and can see no visible issues with the map. Once the initial error has been displayed, there doesn't seem to be an issue; it is just annoying to have the list of errors every time the program is loaded.

The map with the problem is "317 Ballantrae Bar And Barrhill". This map should not even be listed in the maps list.
I think you're currently displaying another map (with no problem).
I am right?

I have the full set of 25k maps on CD, sheet 317 is one of them. It has been copied to my tablet so appears in the maps list, no reason why it shouldn't. As I said, that sheet was selected at random, I could have chosen any of a number that give the same error. Yes, I am displaying another sheet without any issue but I don't see that as relevant.

When you display a map, the application will preload all other maps that are in the same folder (so it can continuously loads another map when you slide out of the current map, and automatically load another map when using the +/- zoom buttons).
While preloading the other maps, the application encounter map "317 Ballantrae Bar And Barrhill" that it can't successfully load (corrupted data?), so it displays a message to warn you that this map won't appear in the maps list inside the application, and won't be displayed.

I could just tell you "ok I'll remove all warning messages", but it's not the correct solution because this message is relevant and tells you that map "317 Ballantrae Bar And Barrhill" is broken and not available, and you should not rely on this one. If in your particular case you don't need this map, just remove it (or put it in another folder as was the initial suggestion) and you'll not see the warning again.

If you have for example 3 qct files in a folder, then you expect to see 3 maps in the application, or have a message that tells you that there is only 2 and one couldn't be loaded.
