I think you need to start thinking about a temporary refresh mode.

Let's say the user wants to update the area of the map that he's looking at right now, but doesn't want to wait the four months etcetera for the current tiles stored in the app to expire.

On the other hand he doesn't want to throw away the whole stored layer just to update the little bit that he's looking at.

Therefore, you perhaps need to implement some kind of temporary refresh mode. I'm not sure how you should activate it... maybe holding down on the map of long time, maybe some toggle button somewhere...

Also it should turn itself back off before long so the user does not leave it on for days and days.

He should be able to activate it, sweep around to gobble up fresh tiles, just like they were never there in the first place, and then turn it back off.

I suppose it should get all the layers currently in the view stack, not just the top layer.

I completely agree, this would be a very useful feature.

Hi,
Even if a "temporary refresh mode" would be easier to use, there is already an existing way to refresh the stored data as explained here: http://www.offline-maps.net/en/help/map ... a_map_area.

Thanks but 1. I remember that this could not be used for e.g., Google
tiles (your page should perhaps mention that), due to their Terms. Hence
I gave up learning it. 2. It is an unfamiliar way when one is used to
sweeping around.
