Feature request

Post by dax »

Hi guys
I have a feature request.
When you are using the app there is a blue track that displays the previous locations you have travelled. I believe this setting is called "Display Previous Locations"
The problem is it only displays your previous locations for a very short time and then automatically disappears.
It would be a great feature if in the settings you could set a length of time for the app to display the previous locations.
Example display previous locations for 1 hour, 2 hours, 4 hours, 12 hours, 24 hours...

We use this app for trail riding in the Australian bush and it is very useful to see where you have been during the day so you know if you have ridden the same area twice.

The obvious answer is to simply record your whole day but that is not practical. As we are travelling through the bush we record any new trails we discover or any new trails we make. This might happen 10 times in a days ride. If we were recording the whole day we would need to stop the recording every time we found a new trail and start a new recording then stop that recording at the end of that trail, then start a new recording again.
With this workflow you end up with 20 recorded trails at the end of a day and you need to go back and delete 10 of them.
A setting that recorded the previous locations for a set time would fix this problem.
Thoughts ?

Hi again thank you for your interest in this application and suggestion.
The display of previous real-time locations has a very different purpose and behavior to be adapted something similar to your request unfortunately. Those locations are not saved, only gathered when the map is displayed, and used to compute current mean speed and other indicators. Making the app to record them even when it's closed and keep an history would be equivalent of making another track recorder, which is its exact purpose: log locations on a periodical time. The track recorder has the advantage of running separately from the app to be completely independent and battery efficient.
I understand you already use the track recorder for something else, maybe you can adapt your use by leaving it started at all time, and starting a new segment/activity when you change from existing route to new trails, it would display recorded track with different colors on the map...
