Feature request: scaleable/scrollable elevation profile

Post by muratisik »

Hi,

I am a fan of Alpinequest and currently it is the "highest value" application installed on my mobile. I have already established it as the standard app for our bicycle touring community. Thank you for the effort, responsiveness and sincerity.

For the type of cycling we do, Elevation Profiles are at the center of planning and executing a route. It is nice that we have a screen that combines the map and the elevation profile at the same time.

Currently, the full elevation profile is scaled horizontally to fit to the lower half of the screen. It becomes compressed if the planned route is longer than 100km. Also, it gets more difficult to judge how steep the slopes are, because they are displayed relative to the length of the route.

It would be very nice to have an elevation profile that is scrollable and horizontally scaleable. I would then set the horizontal zoom level to a fixed value such as 50km/screen width and let it scroll as I cycle.

Thank you

+1 / I support, for the ability to scaleble the graph (elevation profile) horizontally.

And... Is it possible to add a grid to the graph?
Example:

(31.23 KiB) Downloaded 483 times
02.png
(29.72 KiB) Downloaded 483 times

Yes that would be a nice feature to have.
I add this in the wanted features list.

Hi,
Yes, valuable en route. Think I would set it to 10km. When climbing with a quick glance you can see how far to the top.

Good Idea, I made a similar suggestion back in 2019 to improve the elevation profile.

https://www.alpinequest.net/forum/viewt ... f=3&t=4094

It did not get to the "wanted features list" but I hope this will do.

Yes this is still waiting to be added.

tallowcatch, your request was different back then, you were more complaining about the fact that you cannot resize the graphic area (which is true).
If you use the "Explorer mode", this is now possible. Otherwise the "Resizable side views" ability also in the waiting list will resolve this.

Hi all,
Two down on the requestlist is better then one.
What about the combination of the Muratisik improvement with the autopoints from Mapworm.
Two different autopoints one for every short (user choice?)distance.
One for longer distance, (definitely user choice) scaling the dynamic profile.
Just a thought. If it doesn't help just forget.
Friendly greetings

I was thinking of the ability to zoom in with two fingers, then scroll left or right with one finger.

Hi François,
If the dynamic profile on display follows points at x distance.
Perhaps for walking x=5km
for biking x= 10km
What the user seems fit.
Then the even in length parts of a route can be compared with one another. The user can easily see which x km is most demanding of a hike/ride.
Also the dynamic profiles of different routes can be compared.
This is now impossible. To compare the dynamic profiles of two routes, one 78km the other 62km it is nesecary to divide them in chunks of even length, except for the last kilometers.
For comparing dynamic profiles set length is key is my guess.
Also if points of x distance on route/path is realized one of the more important (just an opinion) requests is off of the list.
Just a guess, only trying to be helpfull.
Friendly greetings
Jos
