which is better

Post by carljoaquin »

hi,
im just wondering whats the difference between
alpine Quest and offline maps? other than having
some features disable in alpine but its enable in
offline maps? which is better? which do you recommend?
and one more thing, why is that my location keeps on
moving in different direction while infact im not moving.
no problem with the coordinates i got the same reading
with a gps handset.

Hi again,
In few words:
- OfflineMaps is basically a mapping application, with offline maps support;
- AlpineQuest is an improved version (which contains all features of OfflineMaps) dedicated to Hiking and other outdoor activities, with extra features like a GPS Location Tracker (lets you record your hikes, and gives you statistics and graphics), a barometric altimeter (for devices with a pressure sensor), the ability to share waypoints with other users, support for on-board maps like MemoryMap map, ...

Also, OfflineMaps is free but includes ads.
So choosing one or the other completely depends on what you plan to do with the application.

Concerning your location, if you've zoomed the map a lot, a tiny location change will act like a big move on the map.
To be sure, you can display the "GPS details" window and check how the GPS Location coordinates are changing. Note also that GPS in smart-phones have less precise than handsets, it's ok to have "jumps" of few meters.

Best regards
