OSM download slow

I am downloading OSM Standard Carto layer and get only 10 to 30 kB/s download speed.
Does anybody know what is wrong? Is there an alternative ?

The OSM France seems to work OK - not blisteringly fast, but liveable with. It doesn't just cover France!!
In my opinion it is just as good if not better than the Standard Carto or Mapnik versions - roads are coloured differently but it's worth a look.

Yes unfortunately the OSM map server has been slow lately.
I guess it's more and more used since Google maps became much more expensive to use...
Right now the only workaround is to use another OSM based map like David suggests, there are plenty of them in the community maps list.

It seems only the Standart Carto is so slow, but for example summer OSM is ok to download.
