[resolved] Importing GeoTIFF files

Post by tysonjones »

I'm trying to import a GeoTIFF file and upon importing I get a notification that there's no calibration file. After that, the file imports correctly but it's shifted off the correct location (just north of it, but in the right basic vicinity). Is this a flaw in how I am generating the GeoTIFF out of qgal? What would be the expected file extension of a proper calibration file?

Hi,
Based on the message you get it seems that the GeoTIFF file you try to import does not contain any information on how to correctly locate the image.
In this case the application will place the image over the current area you display, and if you use the paid version of AlpineQuest, it will offer you the ability to manually calibrate the image.
If you want, you can email me an example file you generate so I can check if it's correct or if the app does something wrong.
You can also try to import your files in QGIS to check if it's working.

Hi,
I would like to play and learn a bit.
Did do some reading trying to understand. Could someone post an interesting site where I can download geotiff images to have a go at it?
Thanks for Alpine Quest.
Friendly greetings

Hi François,
Thanks. Got it to work.
File explorer> downloadfolder>open with. AQ is not in the list. < open as> AQ is in the list but popup unable to handle external content. > copy/paste to maps folder, succes.

tysonjones, thank you for the file.
The application is not able to locate the map because of the map projection code you've chosen (EPSG:6341 instead of the usual EPSG:26912). But your file is fine.
I've added this code to the app's online CRS database, so you can import the TIF file again and it should work fine.
When you import the file, be sure to:
- Select "Import (again)" and not open a previously imported version;
- Be connected the the internet, so the application is able to download map projection code "EPSG:6341".

Let me know if you have any troubles
