[closed] GPS Tracking Frequency

Post by Blaze Falconburger »

I know there is the ability to change the tracking interval by time, but it would be nice to also have an option to be able to set it by distance. E.g. 6ft between points, regardless of time travelled. I use the GPS tracking for mountain biking, and in some places I can be travelling at over 30 mph for maybe a minute - obviously this covers great distance with few points, so loses accuracy, but then when I am going up a hill on tough terrain at maybe 4 mph, it creates a lot of points for a short distance! I think if I could set it by distance I would get a more accurate recording and perhaps less points for the total track?

Hi,
I'm glad to see that after such a long time you're still using AlpineQuest!
You're right that this feature should useful (and has been already asked)...
This minimum distance already exists in AlpineQuest (since long), but cannot be changed by the user. It is linked to the refresh rate like that:

rate (loc/sec), minimum distance (m)
1, 0
2, 1
5, 2
10, 3
20, 6
40, 12
60, 18

I'll try to find a good way to add this setting for the user.
Thanks a lot.

Yes, still using it, and it is still working very well! :)

With the existing time and distance relationship is it using and or or logic?

Yes think that being able to change this (with a default behavior like now) could be good.
Users could optimize track recording depending on their needs...

I've been trying out v1.3.1 for a while and just updated to 1.3.3, its brilliant but one small issue. on first instalation the GPS refresh rate was 2s, I set it to less, ie 60 but after using another of phones apps (ie hitting back key on phone and alpinequest goes into the android stack) and restarting the app its set the update rate to 20s. No matter what i set it allways resets to 20s.

Am I doing something wrong ? or do i need to set update rate every time the apps starts and resumes ?

Thanks

Hi and thanks for your feedback.
The behavior you mentionned is not normal, the rate should be saved.
I have checked on my device and it's like you: /40 and /60 rates are not correctly resumed.
I will correct this in the next version, I'm really sorry about that. I'm not used to these rates so I never saw it.
Best regards

I may be missing something obvious, but how do I see/set the update rate/tracking interval?

Hi,
You can see this rate in the Geolocation window: on the top right, just under the activate button.
Click on it to change the value.
The same rate is used by the GPS location tracker.
Best regards
