Save an area selection

Functional menu Map → Select and save an area.
Is it possible to add Polygonal selection in addition to Rectangular selection?
In this case there should be another item in selection settings, a kind of:
Polygonal selection, select using more than 4 points.

This one is also nice →
select a map area to download based on tracks/waypoints and a distance around them.
